Coconut Oil for Diaper Rash – Best Homemade Remedy for Diaper RashCoconut Oil for Diaper Rash – Best Homemade Remedy for Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is a common problem for most new parents. These rashes appear like red, scaly and sore patches on the baby’s tender skin. The area could be inflamed. Sometimes the skin appears slightly warm when you touch it. Generally, the rash is mild, but sometimes there are a lot of red bumps which spread on the child’s thighs and tummy too.

Most parents are extremely careful about their little ones and keep checking the diaper. Parents should change the diaper when it is wet, and must also keep changing it after a few hours. However, the baby can still have diaper rash, in spite of the best efforts of the parents.

Here are some things you can do to prevent diaper rash-

  • Change the soiled diaper frequently. Ideally it should be changed every 2-3 hours.
  • Clean the baby’s skin between diaper changes.
  • Soak the baby’s bottom with warm water occasionally.
  • Do not rub. Pat the skin dry. Use a soft cloth.
  • Let it dry completely before wearing another diaper.
  • Don’t change the diaper brand too frequently. Some babies can have a rash due to such a change.
  • Don’t tighten the diaper too much. This causes chafing. Make sure that the diaper does not move. Any movement can cause chafing too, and this might cause diaper rash.
  • If you are using a diaper cloth, then check directions from the manufacturer to find out how to clean it effectively.
  • Use a soft detergent for washing baby’s clothes and diaper cloth.
  • As per doctor’s prescription, if your baby has started intake of an antibiotic, then start a probiotic food supplement. The healthy bacteria in probiotic reduces the chance of diaper rash.
  • If your child is going to a pre-school or daycare center, then make sure that the caregivers are always watching out for diaper rash. They should maintain good hygiene.
  • When the baby begins to eat solid foods, always introduce one item at a time.

And of course, steroids are probably the last thing you will want to administer. Even the name sounds scary.

A 100% pure natural solution is the much better alternative – something like coconut oil.
